There are many reasons for travel volunteer and there are literally hundreds of charitable organizations that offer volunteer opportunities to travelers passing through. Many are asking for donations or contributions to cover costs, and others are working as for-profit businesses. However the list below only includes those that include and help out with little or nothing.
A common term that allows thousands of small groups to attack sea turtles. Many communities are focused on one or two nesting beaches, usually at risk of over exploitation. You will enjoy support for even one night later. All inclusive, week long volunteer travel tours vary from a few hundred to thousands of Malaysian Ringgit as their accommodation style reflects the price tag. Almost all marine turtle groups welcome volunteers.
Conservation Volunteers (Australia and New Zealand).
You will work in teams to conserve biodiversity and support ecotourism through various short term projects in Australia, New Zealand, and a few international locations. Volunteer opportunities including overnight stays, meals and accommodation are typically provided at around AUS$40 (RM115.00) each night for shorter stays and beginning at AUS$208 (RM595.00) for week long projects. The style of accommodation from campsites to bunkhouses can vary widely. UK based TCV (The Conservation Volunteers) provides services varying from no cost day trips to higher priced week long International Conservation Holidays for EU citizens.
Kibbutz Volunteer, Israel.
Israel is a land of tight communities, but complicated politics, an area that is rarely out of the news. Participating in volunteer travel here gives you the chance to experience this area first hand while living as part of a socialist community where all is given. The area is also a good base for exploring the Middle East and North Africa.
Please note that, although you can fly to Jordan, Egypt and Turkey, traveling between other Middle East countries and Israel may be difficult. Getting Israeli stamps in your passport is likely to cause problems when you try to enter certain countries in the Middle East. Entry into Israel is usually not refused after traveling through the area, although you may be subject to travel delays for questioning.
A unique opportunity to live and work in a different country. Engage in a variety of projects ranging from health care and climate to growth of industry. A 27-month commitment to the role is expected, but this is a life-changing opportunity for those who are willing. Open only to citizens of the United States, but similar volunteer travel programs are available for other countries, including Malaysia through Volunteer Overseas Service (VSO).
United Nations Volunteers.
The UN provides volunteer opportunities for those who are dedicated to making a difference worldwide, from health care and economic development to helping after natural disasters. While many positions are only available to experienced professionals, the UN has ties to hundreds of foreign NGOs and QANGOs seeking help on a less formal basis in similar fields.
This is just a taste of what’s on offer and be sure to explore all choices thoroughly before a plan is undertaken. So note, though having something for free is great, just because a project asks for money doesn’t mean that the charges don’t go to a good reason.
