Heard of CPR?
Do you know why CPR is carried out when a person is unconscious or having an abnormal breathing?
To further understand, take a look below.

Step 1: Examine whether the victim is breathing or not

Open a person’s airway to check whether the victim is respiring or not. Send someone to call for help as soon as you have verified whether the person is breathing. Make sure you have asked the person to come back and confirm with you that the call has been made.

Step 2: Position your hand on the victim’s chest

Position your left hand on the chest of the victim. Make sure the victim is lying on his back on a firm surface. You should kneel beside the victim and place the heel of your hand on the centre of the victim’s chest.
Step 3: Interlock fingers

Cover the left arm that was initially placed on the victim’s chest with the heel of your right arm. Interlock the fingers of both hands together. (visual can be seen at the recap section)

Step 4: Give chest compression

Lean forward so that your shoulders are directly over the victim’s chest. Press down the chest about 2 inches. You should release the pressure but not your hands. Do let the chest come back up.

Step 5: Open the airway

Tilt the head of the victim and lift the victim’s chin in order to open the airway. Do let the victim’s mouth open slightly.
Step 6: Give rescue breaths

Pinch the victim’s nostrils with the hand that was on the forehead of the victim. Do support the victim’s chin with the other hand. Take a normal breath and put your mouth over the victim’s mouth. Blow until you can see the victim’s chest rises.
Step 7: Watch chest fall

Remove your mouth from the victim’s mouth and observe the chest fall. Do repeat the steps 6 and 7 once.
Step 8: Repeat chest compressions and rescue breaths

Place your hands on the victim’s chest again and repeat the cycle of 30 chest compressions followed by two rescue breaths by continuing the cycle.
