What Are The Things You Should Avoid While Traveling Abroad?

Tharahni Kalaiselvan / 17/12/2019

Why you should avoid certain things while traveling abroad?

Wherever you go, security should be a key consideration, and part of minimizing risk in an unfamiliar environment is dressing up to blend in, or at least not dressing up to stand out. In order to avoid matching T-shirts, baseball hats and white sneakers, keep in mind the local customs and behaviors, as well as religious beliefs, when choosing your outfit to travel abroad. This will prevent you from getting annoying local people or becoming a thief’s victim.

There are few things you may want to leave in your wardrobe while traveling abroad before you get out of your suitcase. Remember that this list provides specific guidelines as you want to find out which ones are and are not appropriate to your particular trip.

Clothing that is religiously immodest

In any nation which holds deeply religious beliefs, such as those in the Middle East, it is prudent to dress nicely. Miniskirts, tank tops, bra tops, short sleeved shirts, shorts and sometimes even capri pants should be avoided by women in particular. It’s also huge no revealing dresses and cleavage bearing necklines. In many Middle Eastern countries, or when entering a church or other holy place, people should avoid shorts and sleeveless tops.

Pants and long skirts are a pretty good bet, but just in case, women should bring a shawl in their purse or bag. As a rule of thumb, when approaching any church or holy site, travelers should cover their shoulders and knees in order to avoid unnecessary stars or denied entry. Holding your feet and ankles covered is also appropriate. Stick to long sleeves when in doubt, and keep your chest hair secret.

Backpacks

Planning to spend your holidays in the European or Southeast Asia by backpacking? Then a large backpack is reasonable and probably a better choice for lugging on trains and moving between destinations than go for a rollaboard suitcase. Yet carry a secondary bag for daily city traveling, like a lightweight cotton tote bag that can be worn across your neck. While you are abroad, you may be identified as a tourist by any kind of backpack, big or small. These are also easy to reach and rob if you are on a crowded bus or train wearing one on your back.

Shoes

Sneakers are only for sporting activities in many parts of the world. It is also good to wear city walking leather comfortable shoes and keep them polished and in good shape. If you are traveling anywhere but a beach, sticking with closed toe shoes are generally wise, which can help prevent severe surfaces from bites of insects or cuts on your toes.

Jewellery

Never wear fancy, flashy jewelry while traveling abroad, unless you want someone else’s set to mark your diamond rings, pearls and expensive watches. Since on your trip abroad there is obviously no need to impress anyone so much, leave the valuable items at home. Alternatively, think for a little bling costume jewelry.

Conclusion

Sometimes, what we sound like is even more important than how we look. Despite the loud voices, most Malaysians can be easily identified. Hold your sound level low and your voice friendly, although you can undoubtedly apply this recommendation to move anywhere, even within your own home town.

Having a travel insurance can benefit the tourists as it is intended to cover medical expenses, cancelation of trips lost luggage, plane accident and other travel accidents while you are abroad.
