Paragliding In Asia And Few Great Destinations That Tourists Can Visit.

Tharahni Kalaiselvan / 21/01/2020

Paragliding in Asia has really taken off over the past few decades. Some of the fastest growing paragliding centers in the world are home to this huge and varied continent. With the sport gaining rapid popularity with the locals, and increasing numbers of tourists coming from abroad to paraglide every year, here are some of the suggested spots that you can explore fast before the skies get busy.

Ella Adventure Park- Sri Lanka

Paragliding is recent to Sri Lanka, having taken off only in the last 10 years. This famed hotel complex is located in the heart of the mountainous region of Nuwara Eliya, about 200 miles from the capital Colombo. Head straight to the hill of Makaldeniya, which provides spectacular scenic views and excellent paragliding settings.

Chiang Mai- Thailand

Chiang Mai is the Thai paragliding hotspot, one of the largest growing extreme sports destinations in the world. Go to any of the small rural villages with some great starting points. Additionally, the National Park of Doi Inthanon, about an hour drive from Chiang Mai, covers the highest peak of the country and is a top destination for paragliding.

There are lots of opportunities to combine a Thailand trekking holiday with paragliding, but be cautious to not visit your trekking and paragliding options in the Monsoon season which runs from May to December.

Dalat- Vietnam

Vietnam’s large, thin nation has a range of really fantastic paragliding spots. Although paragliding is recent to Vietnam, as it is to many Asian countries, it has increased in popularity in a big way lately. Close Ho Chi Minh, Dalat’s small town has become the country’s de facto paragliding hub. Vietnam is quickly becoming a top paragliding in Asia destination with some amazing opportunities to sore over these beautiful landscapes, as well as a host of other activities to try.

Krabi- Thailand

Going to Thailand, Krabi offers Chiang Mai a very different experience of paragliding. Underneath you stretch thousands of white sandy beaches and the sparkling blue water of the Andaman coast.

You can also see the Phi Phi islands just off the coast. This is one of the top Asian paragliding destinations with plenty of launch sites on the rocky cliffs along the coast, as well as some inland jungle launches.

Boracay, Philippines

Boracay’s impressive Filipino Island is only 7 kilometers long and 1 kilometer high. It is mostly connected with windsurfing or kitesurfing holidays for tourists. While there are limited opportunities to paraglide on Boracay itself, it’s a great foundation to check some of the nearby spots. A short visit to Akan and Nabas across the water offers a good glide.

With take-off spots centered on the coastal cliffs, as you might imagine, there are some very spectacular views. Nevertheless, as paragliding is increasing in popularity around the Philippines, new take-off sites and schools can be expected to start popping up around Boracay.
