Motor Insurance: What Does New Car Buyers Should Know?

Tharahni Kalaiselvan / 10/12/2019

Motor insurance is something you have to think of, when you buy a car. Even the most professional driver is unable to control others’ driving, as well as the weather or road, there is a chance of an accident happening.

The way we remain safe is to give our money to companies that will hopefully help pay for damages that happen to your car or to you. Although it is a crucial part of buying a car, it can sometimes be a complicated process with various types of policies from different companies. This will help new car buyers to understand the way how motor insurance works.

Coverage

If you buy insurance for your brand new car, your first thought is the coverage it offers. Originally, the basic insurance policy must cover the damage caused by an accident to your own car. It requires compensation of third-party collisions or by other crappy drivers, and damage caused by your own negligence. Several policies may be evolving from car to car. If you buy insurance for your brand new car, your first thought is the coverage it offers. Additional coverage for your car may also include death or physical injury caused by a traffic collision, liability for passenger claims in your car, or even loss or damage caused by natural events such as floods, disasters or landslides.

No Claim Discount (NCD)

You can receive a discount if you do not make any claims for coverage within a specified period. It means you will need to be careful to avoid collisions that you are causing. When you succeed in doing so, you can receive a discount when you extend your policy for the next 12 months. Your name is tied to the NCD and not the car.

So, if you have two, you can transfer it to a new car or to your second car. Using it on the more expensive insurance are recommended. After all, the lower the discount the more you spend. You can still make a claim from your paid policy despite the name “No Claim Discount.” You can claim your coverage without losing your NCD in the event of an accident where you are not at fault. Even if there are people fighting against you, you should reset or lose your NCD.

Claims

In most cases, it may be better to pay off small damages to the car such as a minor scratch for cash. This will help maintain the No Claim Discount and save a lot of time for you. On the other hand, if the damage is significant, you will have to make a claim on your policies. There are the “Own Damage Claim and the “No-Fault Own Damage Claim of claims on your own insurance, which you will make based on the cause of the damage or accident. You will report to the police within 24 hours as required by law and bring your car to an authorized workshop for immediate attention as a standard procedure for making an “Own Damage Claim.”

Then, most insurance companies have a list of the workshop approved by the panel to classify the costs and arrange the repairs. Collect and sign the claim from your insurance company and send the total cost of repairs with the repairers workshop details and copies of your insurance policy, car registration card, road tax file, car owner’s identity card or driving license to the initial police report. Several insurers may have a specific procedure to check from time to time.

Conclusion

Staying conscious of any changes to your insurance policy is always a good idea, if there is anything that is not covered. Many insurers have a specific number that you can dial for clarification. Now go and make those calls, or just consult with your insurer, as most of them are glad to assist you.
