Malaysian Travelers Don’t Travel Enough And What Are The Reasons?

Tharahni Kalaiselvan / 11/02/2020

Very few Malaysian travelers are actually plunging into a new culture and discovering the meaning of life beyond their own borders. While thinking about traveling and living abroad, whether with a friend or a random person, finding a person with no desire to explore new places and see the world is unusual. Now, what makes them to not travel abroad often? Here are some reasons that hold them back from traveling abroad.

Don’t Speak The Language You are Going To Die Of Hunger.

Believe it or not, half of the world’s population is practicing or learning English, including Malaysians. At any opportunity to practice it, we Malaysians are practically salivating. Several Malaysians enroll in Cambridge classes to learn British English and even chat to their classmates for a daily hour to sound like a native English speaker. It is like hitting the jackpot for them to meet a random one on the road who is willing to talk.

In Asia and Europe, this situation is similar. However, results can vary from region to region, so don’t just book a ticket to this urban legend! For instance, you are traveling to Spain. In some regions, if you speak Spanish to a native speaker, they only respond to you by choice in English. It happens since other cultures intrigue the Spanish people, and it helps your cause to meet new people.

Everything Is Costly For Malaysian Travelers.

No matter where you go, prices for goods, accommodation and entertainment will be different. “Different being” is the best explanatory keyword. Compare Malaysia with South Korea. Entrances and drinks may seem pretty high at common night clubs, but the Korean’s excellent alcoholic beverage which is the Soju is pretty cheap. To tell the truth, when you are “vacationing,” you are spending money. Tourists like to spend extra money on good dinners, souvenirs, or one theater showing which is listed in the guide book. I guarantee you will spend even more money if you are a Malaysian doing the same things in Mauritius.

The secret is to spend and live “like a local”. Find an apartment online and rent a room instead of staying in a hotel. If a bus or subway is available, don’t take taxis. In the local supermarket, buy your exotic fruits, meats and vegetables and take this opportunity to ask the cashier where h/her favorite restaurant, bar, theater or beach are located. To be honest, they will take you to reasonably cheap places and you will end up having a much more enjoyable experience.

Travel Insurance Coverage Will Be Bad When You Are Abroad – The Malaysian Travelers’ Mindset.

First of all, fear of illness or accident should be a justification for traveling and “taking hold of the day” and no regrets if something happens down the road. Second, everywhere in the world, health care is quite affordable. Many health insurance plans have some form of coverage around the world. What if you are Malaysian and don’t buy your health care insurance in your country? Okay, in every other country that exists, insurance and medical services will be cheaper, so if something happens, you’re better off being abroad!

You will be missed out – Typical Malaysian Travelers!

Yes, you’re going to miss out on amazing parties, funny stories, weddings, birthdays and other events. Yet it’s pointing toward traveling and/or living abroad for certain people skipping these events. On the other hand, being out of the country for those moments is a fairly acceptable excuse in everybody’s book. And if you can book a special 5-day return flight or set up a skype session or send a birthday video “sorry I couldn’t be there in person,” it goes far beyond it. It’s what drives the growth of friendships. It’s a perfect way to screen out the real friends.

Conclusion.

Clearly in fact, these fears are rooted at some point.

Having a travel insurance can benefit the tourists as it is intended to cover medical expenses, cancelation of trips lost luggage, plane accident and other travel accidents while you are abroad.
